PRESENTATIONS

Professor Andrea Golato presented on the role of business German and (applied) linguistics in German Departments as part of 3 afternoon session entitled "German is more than literature" at a workshop for TAs "A Time for Change: New Trends in German Studies"  funded by the Goethe-Institute Chicago and the DAAD, Saturday Jan 27, 2007.

* The Ecuadorian Student Association at UIUC is offering roses on campus at a discounted price.  All funds from this sale will contribute to the education of young girls who otherwise will not be able to study in Ecuador (due to financial and family problems). We are convinced that by helping them we are supporting an education experience that will benefit not only the girls but also their future families. Price per rose: $3.00. GRADUATE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT

* The European Union Center at UIUC has two fellowship competitions open for graduate students, one is a dissertation research travel grant and the other is a conference participation grant. WEEKLY DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES

* The Deutsche Konversationsgruppe meets each Wednesday from 2-4 at The Bread Company on Goodwin. Students of all levels are welcome. Instructors of German courses, please let your students know about this opportunity to get extra German practice in an informal, no-pressure setting. * The Scandinavian Coffee Hour meets every Wednesday from 4-6 PM at the Bread Company on Goodwin Street. All speakers of any level of modern Scandinavian languages are welcome to attend. Contact: jfeason AT uiuc DOT edu.
