PUBLICATIONS
* Mara R. Wade, together with Simon McKeown, London, has edited, introduced, and published a richly illustrated, invited volume, The Emblem in Scandinavia and the Baltic, as volume 11 in the Series Glasgow Emblem Studies (Glasgow 2006). It is the first comprehensive study of emblems in this region in any language.
* Rochelle Wright has published "Sweden." Schirmer Encyclopedia of Film, Vol. 4. Farmington Hills, MI: Thomas Gale, 2006: 189-196.
* Anna Westerstahl Stenport and Helena M. Hall have published "Scandinavia and the U.S." in _The Illinois International Review_ No. 4 (2007), p. 16-17.
* Emma Betz published a review of "The Interactional Architecture of the Language Classroom: A Conversation Analysis Perspective" by Paul Seedhouse in the Fall 2006 issue (39.1-2) of Die Unterrichtspraxis/ Teaching German.
* Carsten Wilmes published a review of "New Perspectives on CALL for Second Language Classrooms" by Sandra Fotos and Charles M. Browne (eds.) in the Fall 2006 issue (39.1-2) of Die Unterrichtspraxis/ Teaching German.
PRESENTATIONS
Stephen Jaeger gave the "Eroeffnungsvortrag" at a conference at a medieval studies conference at University of Muenster. The title of the lecture was "Bernhard von Clairvaux und die Medien der Exemplaritaet."
Amanda Sheffer presented her work on Heine, Culture, Ethnicity and Identity on Feb, 17 at the conference entitled “Negotiating Identity: Navigating Through Different Times and Spaces” at Indiana University.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Congratulations to Emma Betz who has accepted a position as Assistant Professor, tenure track, at Kansas State University. Emma will be teaching German language, linguistics, and literature courses and coordinate the first year language program.
The Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures has been selected to host the prestigious Hildeman-Fulbright Visiting Professorship of Swedish Language and Scandinavian Area Studies during Spring 2008. Last date of application is March 1, 2007. For more information, see

WEEKLY DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES
* The Deutsche Konversationsgruppe meets each Wednesday from 2-4 at The Bread Company on Goodwin. Students of all levels are welcome. Instructors of German courses, please let your students know about this opportunity to get extra German practice in an informal, no-pressure setting. * The Scandinavian Coffee Hour meets every Wednesday from 4-6 PM at the Bread Company on Goodwin Street. All speakers of any level of modern Scandinavian languages are welcome to attend. Contact:
