Curriculum
The Austria-Illinois Exchange Program offers you
the opportunity to gain considerable fluency in
German, a language expressive of a rich and complex
culture, which provides access not only to one of
the great literatures of Western civilization but
also to the world of international business, science,
politics,and the arts.
In addition to enrolling in the
core courses taught by program staff, students may
take courses at any of the participating institutions.
The courses offered by the program focus on modern
Austrian/German literature, the history of Austrian/German
culture, and select topics in Austrian/German studies,
such as German unification and the European Union.
Additional courses taught by the
program staff include intermediate German and advanced
conversation and composition. Participants also
enroll in a wide variety of German language courses
at the University of Vienna, in business German
at the Economics University, and technical German
at the Technical University.
The Austria-Illinois Exchange Program
permits a course load of 34 credit hours per year
(18 per semester). Students must register for a
minimum of 24 hours. All core courses are taught
in German, and the program strives for total immersion
